Mullen's Office Supplies on Lake Street in Owego has closed. Last month, shoppers were surprised to see "Sorry, We're Closed" signs on Mullen's door. Another sign advertised that the store space is for rent.

Mullen's has been in business in one form or another since the 1930s. It has done business as a department store, card shop, and an office supply business. Their business was hurt in recent years by the loss of several major customers including the county of Tioga.

A few years ago, the county legislature voted to give its office supply contracts to an out of town company because it was a lower bidder. The legislature did not support a local business because it felt that taxpayers wouldn't want them to spend more money if the price was better out of the county.
