Historical Church Tour in Owego
The First Annual Owego Historical Church Tour will be held on Saturday, May 8, from 1:00 to 3:30 pm. The tour, which is sponsored by the Owego Business and Professional Women's Club (BPW), includes three churches: First Presbyterian Union, St. Paul's Episcopal, and the United Methodist. Following the tour, a tea and delicious desserts will be offered at the United Methodist Fellowship Hall.
Persons attending the tour will meet at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Main Street in Owego to register and then will begin the tour guided by an Owego BPW member who will accompany them on a walk through the village to each church. Persons may drive if they wish.
Each church has selected a person knowledgeable in the historic architecture and the local church history to guide the group. St. Paul's Church has arranged for the tours to be welcomed by their bell carillon and the First Presbyterian Union Church will demonstrate their historically preserved Tracker organ.
Advanced tickets may be purchased for $8.00 from a BPW member, Ash Insurance Agency on Main Street in Owego, Awakenings Cafe on Front Street in Owego, or at one of the church offices. Tickets can be bought on the day of the tour for $10 at 12:30 pm. Registration will begin at 12:30 pm.
The Owego BPW were the originators of the very popular house tours and are very excited about this event. The proceeds from the Historical Church Tour will benefit the Women Helping Women Scholarship Fund.
