100-year-old maple tree on HIlton Road in Apalachin was uprooted during a recent storm last month. The tree downed two power poles and knocked out electrical power lines, telephone lines, and cable TV lines. Power was interrupted for approx- imately 15 hours. There was no disruption to phone or cable service. The Town of Owego Highway Department responded to clear the road, allowing NYSEG workers to access the area. The Apalachin Fire Depart- ment was called to put out a small brush fire caused by the downed power lines. There was no property damage except to a small portion of a split rail fence.
