Guides Needed

The Bement-Billings Farmstead is looking for guides for the 1998 season. This living museum depicts life as it was on the farm in the first half of the 19th Century. Crafts, skills, and activities such as blacksmithing, woodworking, open-hearth cooking, spinning, weaving, quilting, storytelling, gardening/herbs, and the one-room school are represented.

The museum is open from May to October, and guides are needed for both weekend and weekday tours. No experience is needed. Training is provided. All you must bring is a willingness to learn and a desire to share your knowledge of the past with others.

For more information, call Kim Mayhew at (607) 642-8487 or write to her c/o the society.

Society Supports Guilds

The Newark Valley Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the crafts and skills of the 1800s. For this reason, they support three artisan guilds: The Newark Valley Historical Society Blacksmith Guild, the Newark Valley Woodwrights' Guild, and the Shuttles and Spindles Guild. Visitors and new members are welcome. For more information, call Kim Mayhew at (607) 642-8487.
