Hickey Believes Jury System a Failure

In California, a jury found O. J. Simpson innocent. This verdict was born out of frustration and arrogance. The Goldmans lost, the Browns lost. The big losers were the Black race and the nation. These grievous losses resulted from a failed judicial system, more specifically the jury system.

In Tioga County last week, Joe Cataldo was given a "slap on the wrist" for what should have been murder. This verdict was born out of plain ignorance on the part of the jurors. The families again lost. The Cataldos may have lost, too. But the big losers were the young people, those involved and those high school classes brought to Tioga County to watch this travesty of justice unfold.

Now before more irreparable damage is done, the jury system itself should go on trial. It's long over-due. It's been decades since one was tried by a jury of his peers. We can no longer afford frustrated or arrogant or ignorant jurors.
