Little People/Big People

October 2, 9, 16, 23, Thursdays

10:30am & 1:30pm

A series of discovery programs for three- and four-year-olds and their favorite big person. Sign up for the morning or afternoon program. $12 members, $16 non-members.

Travelogue

No charge. Everyone welcome.

Volunteer Dinner

Waterman Center volunteers gather on Hiawatha Island.

Living Topiary Class

October 15, Wednesday, 6-9pm

Learn to create a living work of art. Make an adorable topiary animal. Registration required. $8 members, $10 non-members. A materials fee of $15 will be assessed on the day of the class to cover the cost of the plants and moss.

Fall Foliage Breakfast

October 18, Saturday, 9-11am

Meet on the banks of the Susquehanna River for a hearty breakfast followed by a tour of Hiawatha Island. Reservations required. $10 members, $15 non-members.

Susquehanna River Trip

October 18, Saturday, 11am-4pm

Meet at the center's Marshland Road property for trip down the Susquehanna River to Nichols. Rich Briere will lead the group. Reservations required.

Birding Weekend

October 18 & 19, Saturday & Sunday, 10am-4pm

Join the Waterman staff and volunteers for a weekend of birding tours, and discussions about birding in general. Donations from this event will go to help offset the cost of filling the center's birdfeeders this winter.

Joseph Cornell - "Sharing Nature With Children"

October 24 & 25, Friday & Saturday, All Day

Join Joseph Cornell, an internationally known environmental educator, for a two-day workshop. Joseph will share his enthusiasm, expertise, and activities throughout the workshop. Cost of the workshop is $50 per person. Pre-registration is required.

Halloween Hikes

October 25, Saturday, 6-9pm

October 26, Sunday, 5-8pm

Each year at this time Waterman's woods are filled with some strange creatures. Meet some of them as they share their life stories. This event is rated "G." Reservations suggested. Advance registration - $3 adults, $2 children 6-15. At the door - $4 adults, $3 children. Children under 6 free.

Vote for the Environment

November 4, Tuesday, 6am-9pm

On election day, take a hike on one of the trails, stop and watch the birds at the feeders, or visit the museum.

New York City Bus Trip

November 8, Saturday, All Day

The free trip includes the cost of both admissions to the Bronx Zoo and the Botanical Gardens, transportation, and meals. This trip is limited to 45 people and registration is required. A naturalist will accompany the group. The trip is free to all persons making a donation of more than $100 to the Waterman Center Charitable Trust Fund. In addition, this donation will entitle you, or your designee, a one year Waterman Center membership.

Snowshoe Making 101

November 4, 11, 18, 25, Tues, 7-9pm

The four-session class includes instruction in lacing a pair of Ojibwa-style snowshoes. Registration fee includes a snowshoe kit and instruction. The class fee is $135 for members and $160 for non-members. Registration deadline is October 15.
