Labor Day weekend started with five people being sent to the hospital and
another being arrested for driving while intoxicated after a motor vehicle
accident on Friday, August 29, at the south side of the Court Street Bridge
in Owego. A 1986 Mercury driven by Tammy A. Mead of Forest Hill Road, Apalachin,
was rear ended by a vehicle driven by Raymond C. Arnold of Athens, Pa.
Passengers in the Mead vehicle were Sherry Savage-Kyzer and four children.
Tammy, Sherry, and three of the children were taken to Wilson Memorial
Hospital and treated for head, neck, and abdominal pains. Raymond C. Arnold
was arrested for DWI (his BAC was .12%), unlawful possession of marijuana,
and ticketed for following too closely. His vehicle was impounded. The
accident was investigated by Owego Police Officer Frederick J. DeVita.
The injured were transported to the hospital by the Owego, Apalachin, and
Campville Emergency Squads.
